The Lynn C. Vincent Honorary Endowed Scholarship was established by the Vincent family to provide financial assistance to sophomore students based on financial need.
“Lynn was very happy when he learned that we had established this scholarship in his honor,” said Carol Vincent. “His joy came from knowing that the scholarship will help students who are working to improve their lives through higher education. Lynn has always loved Panola County and committed his life to seeing our community grow. He has accomplished this goal by serving in various government positions, actively participating in civic organizations, and making financial contributions to the Panola College Foundation and various other non-profit organizations in our community. It was only natural that we would honor him in this way.”
Lynn began his college career at Panola Junior College in 1956. As a freshman he attended classes and was a member of the Saddle Club. In 1957 Lynn began his banking career by voluntarily sweeping floors and doing various odd jobs at the First State Bank and Trust Company. The bank’s owner, Mr. B. F. Payne, was impressed with Lynn’s strong work ethic and offered him a paying position as a teller later that year. Today, Lynn serves as a bank director and President of the First State Bank and Trust Company.
The Lynn C. Vincent Honorary Endowed Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who is starting their sophomore year at Panola College. The selection of the recipients will be made in the spring each year.
