The Jake and Mary Lee Browning Memorial Scholarship was established in 1996 by the Browning family and Union Pacific Resources in memory of Jake Browning and his wife Mary Lee Browning. Mr. Browning served as the first business manager of Panola College. He also held numerous positions in education and the oil and gas industry in Panola County. The Brownings have two sons, Robert and Mickey Browning. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student in the Associate Degree Nursing program or to another worthy sophomore student.
