The Bob and Ramona Allums Endowed Scholarship was established by Bob and Ramona Allums in 2008 to assist students with demonstrated financial need.
Ramona Allums was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and in spite of her father’s job, which required the family to often move from one worksite to another, Ramona is proud of the fact that she was able to spend most of her life in Texas. She graduated from Lake Worth High School near Fort Worth, TX. Ramona went on to attend Texas Woman's University and Abilene Christian University. In 1979 Ramona went back to school and enrolled at Panola College. She attended three semesters and was a member of the student honor society, Phi Theta Kappa. In 1981 she was hired by Panola College as an Administrative Secretary.
Mr. Bobby Lynn “Bob” Allums was born in the Fairplay Community to Claude Lee and Elsie Irene Sparks Allums. Bobby graduated from Beckville High School in 1954, and following graduation attended Panola College. Later he obtained his Bachelor of Business/Accounting degree from The University of Texas.
Bobby worked as an accountant with Texas Utilities for 35 years. He was also a private pilot and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and bird watching. Bobby and Ramona were married on June 2, 1963 and together they celebrated 46 years of marriage. Mr. Allums was 72 years old when he passed away on May 27, 2009.
“This is the second scholarship established by the Allums Family,” said Van Patterson, Director of Institutional Advancement. “Each time these scholarships are awarded, the Allums Family will be remembered with fondness. Generosity to those striving to improve their lives will be their legacy.”
The Bob and Ramona Allums Endowed Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who is starting their sophomore year at Panola College. The selection of the recipients will be made in the spring each year.
