H-E-B Grocery Company donated $6,000 to the Emergency Aid program at Panola College on Monday, August 26. Dr. Jessica Pace, Panola College president, and seven representatives from the emergency aid team were on site at the local H-E-B in Carthage to thank the corporation for its generous support.

The Emergency Aid program was established at the College in 2021 through a grant from the Greater Texas Foundation. The goal of the program is to assist students who experience an unexpected emergency that could prevent them from completing their education.

“Since launching the Emergency Aid program at Panola College, we have been able to support numerous students,” said Amber Wilcots, advancement and special events coordinator. “Because of H-E-B’s support, we will be able to continue making a difference in students’ lives this semester.”

The program receives hundreds of requests each year requesting assistance for gas, medical needs, food, clothing, and transportation issues. Students are able to submit a request once every semester. Each application undergoes a case-by-case review, and the program's support enables an impressive 80 to 90 percent of students to overcome these obstacles and successfully pursue their education.

“For over 115 years, H-E-B has contributed to worthy causes throughout Texas and Mexico, and we continue to support our community as strongly as ever” said Anna Bryant from H-E-B’s public affairs team. “It is our sincere hope that our support will help make the Emergency Aid program a success.”
