Carthage Service League donated $10,000 to the Emergency Aid Program at Panola College on December 10. Five representatives from the emergency aid team attended the Service League’s annual Christmas meeting to thank the group for its generous support.

The Emergency Aid program was established in 2021 through a grant from the Greater Texas Foundation. The goal of the program is to assist students who experience an unexpected emergency that could prevent them from completing their education.

“Since the launch of the Emergency Aid Program, we have been able to assist many students,” said Amber Wilcots, advancement and special events coordinator. “Thanks to the Carthage Service League’s support, we can continue making a positive impact on their lives.”

The program receives hundreds of requests each year requesting assistance for gas, medical needs, food, clothing, and transportation issues. Students are able to submit a request once every semester. Each application undergoes a case-by-case review, and the program's support enables an impressive 80 to 90 percent of students to overcome these obstacles and successfully pursue their education.

“We’re glad to support this program and are eager to see how it will assist students during times of need,” said Janet Humber, president of the Service League. “Our hope is that this donation will provide significant help to students in Panola County who may face challenges or emergencies while attending college.”
