Panola College Green Jackets, SGA donate $500 to Veterans group
The Green Jackets and Student Government Association, two on-campus student organizations at Panola College, donated $500 to the Panola County Texas Veterans Relief Fund on Thursday, Jan. 28. The donation was accepted by Bill Morris, the founder of the Panola County Texas Veterans Relief Fund and the Veterans service officer for Panola County.
“The Panola County Texas Veterans Relief Fund does so much for Panola County and its Veterans, and we want to ensure that the organization can continue helping out in the future,” said Katie Wright, sponsor of the Green Jackets.
The funds were raised through sponsorships that were sold for the annual Veterans Day Dinner, an event coordinated by the Green Jackets and Student Government Association and free to attend for any East Texas service member. Sponsors for the event included the Panola College Foundation, Carthage Service League, Carthage Missionary Baptist Church, First State Bank & Trust Company, Gene and Brenda Giles, DPT Services, Brian and Jodee Naples, and 30 Flag of Honor sponsors.
“The Green Jackets value and acknowledge all that these Veterans have done and continue to do in our community,” said Ainsley Ross, president of the Green Jackets. “We hope that this donation will better the lives of the Veterans in our community and that it will impact, support, and wrap their hearts with love and security.”
