The report, based on Census and National Science Foundation data analyzed by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, shows that professions that depend heavily on skills learned in these fields are the second-fastest growing occupational group in the United States, after health care. >>Read entire report.<<
Panola College Utilizes Adjunct Professors
An adjunct professor is a part-time professor who is hired on a contractual basis rather than being given a permanent position. Many colleges hire adjunct faculty members because they are flexible and qualified. Just like full-time faculty members, adjunct professors must fulfill basic educational requirements before they can teach, and they are very well-educated, talented people. The use of adjunct professor positions has grown in colleges in response to decreased funding, which forces these schools to make choices that are sometimes difficult. If the choice is between hiring adjunct professors and closing a program, many schools consider it better to hire adjunct professors. Panola College carefully selects each and every adjunct professor in the science department.
