Panola Cowgirls and Cowboys Shine in First Rodeo of the Year!
Wyatt Denny, Gannon Ivy, KJ Carmon, Hunter Smith, and Brody Bellet led the men's team to a third place finish this weekend at the Panola College -Devon Energy College rodeo hosted at the Panola County Cattleman's Arena in Carthage. Nicole Reeves and Torey Little led the way for the girls team as they place fifth out of the 14 teams represented.
The boys third place finish was the highest finish of all the junior colleges in the region and only 9 points out of second behind McNeese State University and Sam Houston State University.
Wyatt Denny, of Minden, NV won the bareback competition as he earned a score of 80 points to share the leader board on Saturday night. Gannon Ivy, of Hampton, AR took second place in the bull riding as one of only two successful rides of the entire weekend. KJ Carmon, of Beaumont, TX took third in the tie down calf roping and healer Hunter Smith, of Bivins, TX and his teammate took third in the team roping competition. Brody Bellet, of Silsbee, TX rounded up the Panola points with a sixth place finish in the tie down calf roping.
On the girls' side, Nicole Reeves, of Longville, LA took third in the goat tying while teammate Torey Little, of Hackberry, LA finished in sixth place.
The Panola team will travel this week to Uvalde, TX for the Southwest Texas Junior College Rodeo, then will be at Northeast Texas Community College in Mt. Pleasant the following weekend.
