Rodeo team finishes 2nd at Sam Houston State Rodeo
Wyatt Denny, of Minden, Nevada, and Gannon Ivey, of Hampton, Arkansas, won their events to lead the Panola College Men’s Rodeo team to a second place finish at the Sam Houston State University Rodeo this weekend. Denny once again put his name at the top of the bareback riding list this weekend, and extended his lead in the Southern Region as he competes to go to the College National Finals in Casper, Wyoming in June. The top three in each event will qualify for the CNFR. Gannon Ivey joined Denny on the leader board, by also winning the bullriding at Sam Houston. This win jumped Ivey to the top spot in the region as the first half of the season comes to an end, and into the lead for the chase for the CNFR. The Panola team made a clean sweep in the bullriding with Ivey winning first, and teammates Fulton Rutland, of Stillwell, OK, and Randy Myers, of Logansport, LA finishing second and third. The second place finish moves Rutland into the third spot in the region and a chance to go to nationals. Chance Savage, of Midway, also contributed to the Panola College run as he and his partner place third in the team roping. On the ladies side, Sarah Anne Broussard, of St. Martinsville, LA, placed third in the breakaway competition and moved up to 7th in the region. She was the only female to tally points for the Panola College Women’s team. The team finished 5th at Sam Houston and are still ranked fourth overall in the Southern Region.
