Campbell and Barney Leading the Way to Wyoming!

Steven Campbell and Bryce Barney are leading the way as the Panola Rodeo team aims for the National Finals in Casper, Wyoming.  After the first half of the 2012-2013 Southern Region Schedule comes to an end, Campbell is leading the bull riding standings, while Bryce Barney is leading the way in the tie down calf roping and hanging on to fifteenth in the steerwrestling.  Jacob Choate is sitting in 4th place in the bareback competion, and Corey Fussell and Tyler Dartez round out the top 10 in the sadle bronc.  Wyatt Paul and Tyler Courson are sitting 5th in the team roping, and Hunter Smith is hanging on with a shot at Nationals in 11th.  Cody Coleman and Kevin Carmen are also in striking distance as they finish the first half at 8th and 9th respectively in the tie down calf roping.  Christie Morris and Breely Barthle are leading the way for the women's team in the breakaway roping as Morris is seated 5th and Barthle 13th.  Khakie Jo Holland finished the semester sitting 7th in the goat tying.

Panola College Rodeo Team: Staying Strong!

Panola College’s Rodeo program was developed in 2004.  It is a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association and 2012-2013 Panola College Rodeo Teamthe Southern Region.  Panola College has qualified for the NIRA Finals 7 of the 9 years, with Tilden Hooper winning the National Finals Bareback Championship in 2005 on his way to the PRCA Rookie of the Year and a trip to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, NV. 

The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association consists of Universities and Community Colleges all over the country.  The Southern Association consists of:  Panola College, Texas A&M University, Sam Houston State University, McNeese State University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Wharton County Junior College, Texas A&M Kingsville, Lone Star College, Northeast Texas Community College, Trinity Valley Community College, Southwest Texas Junior College, and Hill College.

The rodeo team participates in all nine events sanctioned by the NIRA, which include:  bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, team roping, girls’ barrel racing, girls’ goat tying, and girls’ breakaway calf roping.
