Ponies win series against Northeast
After losing the series opener on Wednesday 5-2, the Ponies bounced back for a DH sweep against Northeast TX on Friday. Panola won game 1 by a score of 4-0 behind a complete game shutout from Marshall Kasowski. The Ponies only had 6 hits but had some timely situational hitting. Clint Cage had 2 RBI's and Jhosue Mendoza was 2-3 with an RBI. In game 2, the Ponies won 10-9 in 12 innings. Panola was up 8-4 going into the bottom of the 7th inning, when Northeast rallied to score 4 runs in the frame to tie it at 8-8. In the 9th, the Ponies loaded the bases with 1 out and failed to score. In the 10th, the Ponies stranded runners on 1st and 2nd. In the 11th, the Ponies left another runner in scoring position. In the 12th, the Ponies finally broke through and scored 2 runs to go up 10-8. Northeast would not go down easy in the bottom of the 12th. They would load the bases with 1 out on an HBP and 2 singles. They would get a sac fly to bring the score to 10-9 with 2 out. Following a HBP to load the bases again with 2 outs, Kyle Black struck out the Eagles cleanup hitter to end the game to pick up the win.

2 FORMER PONIES FALL SHORT OF CHAMPIONSHIP
Two former Panola Ponies fell short in the their quest for a National Championship this week in Omaha, Nebraska. Nick Ammirati- C and Brett Pirtle- 2B, both had starting roles for the Mississippi State University Bulldogs. The Bulldogs lost to UCLA in the Championship Series. They finished the year with a 51-18 record.#17- Nick Ammirati-C, was a 2011 graduate of Panola College, where he was and All-Conference catcher. Nick was also drafted out of high school in 2009 by the Florida Marlins. He is from Sparta, NJ.
#13- Brett Pirtle-2B, was a 2012 graduate of Panola College, where he was an All-Conference infielder. Brett was a second team all SEC selection. He is from Tyler, TX. Brett had a 43-game on-base streak end Tuesday's loss to UCLA. He tied for the most hits in the CWS with seven.
