The start of the 2012 5K Run!
3rd Annual Panola College SGA 5K Run Set for April 6
The Panola College Student Government Association (SGA) is preparing for one of its biggest fundraisers yet. The SGA is organizing a 5K (3.1 miles) fun run to be held on April 6 at the main campus in Carthage, Texas. The event will give participants a chance to have fun while competing and raising money for the Panola College Foundation.
The 5K run will begin in front of the Martha Miller Administration Building at 9 a.m. Participants should arrive by 8 a.m. to sign-in. Proceeds from this event will be used to help support the Panola College Foundation. Those interested in running can pick up an application from the Office of Institutional Advancement, any student enrolled in Professor Naples’ Government course, or by registering online at ( www.active.com/running/carthage-tx/5k-pony-express-2013 ).
“Last year the SGA 5K run raised more than $26,000 for the Panola College Foundation,” said Brian Naples, Government Professor and SGA Sponsor. “I hope the community will once again support the efforts of our students by participating in this event, making a donation, or helping with a sponsorship. The 5K run helps students to understand what is involved in raising money for a worthy cause. Last year many commented that they had no idea how much work was involved or how difficult it was to ask for a donation. A growing and healthy College Foundation is a great benefit to the College and I’m hopeful that this year’s event will be a huge success. If you would like to participate in any of these events or need additional information, please contact me at bnaples@panola.edu or 903-693-2043.”

(L to R) - Back: CJ Craddock, Dylan Deaton, Joey Hall, Zachary Barlow;
Middle: Linda Rivas, Sunny Sicko, Kelsey Bass;
Front Row: TJ Rushing, Trenton Wall, Mariah Fulbright, John Shaw
Beginning on February 21, the Panola College Theatre will present Tom Griffin’s “The Boys Next Door.” Commenting on the performance, drama professor, Clay Grizzle said, “The play is the story of four mentally handicapped men who live under the supervision of an earnest, but increasingly ‘burned out’ social worker named Jack. Norman, who works in a doughnut shop and is unable to resist the lure of the sweet pastries, takes great pride in the huge bundle of keys that dangles from his waist; Lucien P. Smith has the mind of a five-year-old but imagines that he is able to read and comprehend the weighty books he lugs about; Arnold, the ringleader of the group, is a hyperactive, compulsive chatterer, who suffers from deep-seated insecurities and a persecution complex; while Barry, a brilliant schizophrenic who is devastated by the unfeeling rejection of his brutal father, fantasizes that he is a golf pro. Mingled with scenes from the daily lives of these four, are "little things" that sometimes become momentous (and often very funny). There are moments of great poignancy when, with touching effectiveness, the audience is reminded that the handicapped, like the rest of us, want only to love and laugh and find some meaning and purpose in the brief time that they are allotted on this earth.” Read more...
